Introducing Granny Sue and Top Dog A
Every community has its storytellers. Here at Maes Mynan Park, we’re lucky to have one of our very own in Granny Sue – one of our wonderful lodge owners with a big heart, a creative spirit, and a mischievous wit.
Granny Sue captures the charm and character of life at Maes Mynan perfectly – from tranquil lakeside moments to muddy-pawed adventures – all through A’s eyes! Her poem below, “Let Me Introduce Myself,” gives you a glimpse into park life from the Top Dog’s perspective.
So, sit back, relax, and let Top Dog A take you by the lead, as he welcomes you to his world of walks, wagging tails and woodland wonder.
Let me introduce myself to all my Canine Friends
My name is A, and I’m Top Dog at Maes Mynan Park,
Why not come and see me here, where life is easy and free?
I’m the Leader of the Pack — the Top Dog, no doubt,
Keeping all the humans in line as they scurry about.
They keep it neat and tidy, I keep them in check,
All firmly under my paw — what else would you expect?
Come visit our idyll in Afonwen, Caerwys,
I’ll take the lead — no need to be coyish!
I’ll show you the trails, the fields and the hills,
With rabbit holes, mole mounds — all full of thrills.
You can dig and root and get nice and mucky,
(That’s when life feels really lucky!)
There are squirrels to chase — though they’re far too quick,
I bark up wrong trees more often than I’d pick!
There’s plenty of grass for an afternoon laze,
Basking in sunshine, lost in a daze.
By the lake’s edge, where the wild things play,
I’ll save that chase for another day.
There are woods and trees — perfect for a sniff,
And, yes, the odd leg-cocking tiff!
The only downside (you’ll see what I mean),
Is humans fussing — “time for a clean!”
But after a day so full of delight,
I’ll curl up on a lap as day turns to night.
A scratch behind the ears — oh, that’s the spot,
Grrreat! That’s comfort, like it or not.
Now time for a snooze, I’ll drift without fear,
Dog-tired and happy — wish you were here!
