Castles to Explore In North Wales

Castles always have a mistique about them. Many of us can’t help delving back into history to explore how a bygone age lived.

North Wales has so much to offer in terms of history and Chester Castle (Caer in Welsh) was a Roman Fort that saw many foot soldiers march through North Wales, traveling through Caerwys en route to Denbigh and Caernarfon and beyond.

Edward the 1st to combat the Welsh Pricnces built many castles. Conwy, Caernarfon, Rhuddlan, Flint, Beaumaris, Denbigh and Harlech are the main ones we have all heard about, but there are other castles too. Euloe Castle, Penrhyn Castle, Chirk Castle, Powis Castle, Dolwyddelan Castle and Dolbadarn Castle

Historic Towns and Cities to Explore 

Caerwys is the smallest town in the UK with a Royal Charter and can be found on the doorstep of both Maes Mynan Park and Misty Waters Holiday Park. As a town it has two convenience stores, a butcher, a post office, a café, a pub, an art gallery, hairdressers, dog groomers, vets, and pharmacy.

Other interesting historic towns to visit include; Conwy, Betwys Y Coed, Llanwrst, Caernarfon, Beaumaris, Beddgelert, Llanberis, Blaneau Ffestiniog, Porthmadog, Cricceth, Harlech, Denbigh, Portmeirion, Llandudno, Llangollen, St. Asaph, Bangor and many more for you to discover. Even though Chester is in England, it still has connections with North Wales.

Exploring historic towns in North Wales is full of adventure when it comes to discovering Welsh culture, language, and history. You will have your favourites, just as we do, but discovering new places is all part of a holiday lifestyle, where making happy memories is all part of the fun.

On the doorstop of Maes Mynan Park and Misty Waters Holiday Park, you will find the spectacular Glasfryn Art Gallery in Caerwys. Here you will find a wide range of art, pottery, textiles, jewellery and other object d’art from all around Wales to browse and purchase.  Oriel Glasfryn also has visiting exhibitors and arranges exhibitions and events, so it is well worth keeping an eye on their promotions if you’d like to stay in their loop.

Afonwen Craft & Antique Centre also hold weekend exhibitors where you can meet artisan crafters and painters. Check out their website for their calendar of events.

Further afield you will find other art galleries to explore and if you like music, cinema, shows or theatre, then there is plenty in store for you across North Wales.

Countryside & Mountains to Explore In North Wales

North Wales is a beautiful part of the UK and is often overlooked for its diverse range of hills, woodland, lakes, mountains and wildlife.

Maes Mynan Park is located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and overlooks Moel Y Parc of the Clwydian Range, Denbigh Moors and from certain vantage points, the distant mountains of Snowdonia.

Misty Waters Holiday Park is also located within the open countryside with views across woodland and open fields.
