Make a Spring Easter Wreath from foraged silver birch at Maes Mynan Holiday Park

WP at Maes Mynan Holiday Park is an avid forager and loves to discover new treasures around Maes Mynan Holiday Park, where she has her lovely holiday home.Β

This year, WP brought us a fabulous surprise in the form of a silver birch Easter wreath. She had made it, with her granddaughter Alice, from foraged silver birch twigs they’d found together whilst walking around the parkland of Maes Mynan Holiday Park.Β

So I asked WP if she could write up her instructions for making a Spring Easter Wreath, so we could share it with you all, just in case you wanted to β€˜have a go’ to make your own.Β

How to make a Spring Easter Wreath from foraged finds

  • Step 1. Forage and gather together a variety of lengths of silver birch twigs – the amount will depend on the size or number of Spring Easter wreaths you wish to make. Silver Birch twigs are easy to find around Maes Mynan Park and are a good pliable material to bend into a circular shape.
Tip:– Best to collect the silver birch twigs from the floor after a β€˜big wind’, as they are easy to reach and collect.
  • Step 2. Choose a bucket with an inside size, or diameter, to match the size you have in mind for your Easter wreath.
  • Step 3. Collect together any bits you want to use to create your wreath so that you have everything at the ready eg:- string, ribbon, plant wire, secateurs, scissors, additional natural foraged items (willow, catkins, acorns, cones) and any seasonal decorations you would like to use to embellish your wreath (glass or wooden Easter items such as painted eggs, rabbits, chicks, flowers)Β Β
  • Step 4. Layer your twigs around the inside of the bucket until you have the desired wreath thickness, trying to keep the tips and blunt ends at different positions. Then cut the wire or string to tie and secure the twigs. Select different tying points around the circular twig wreath.Β
  • Step 5. Fully remove your secured wreath from the bucket and decorate it using your favourite items – flowers, Easter decorations, ribbons, lights and anything else you have decided to use to embellish your wreath to suit your occasion. Country Living will give you some other ideas here.
  • Step 6. Show off your Spring Easter Wreath on a door, wall, or use as a table decoration with a candle in the middle.Β
  • Step 7. Once Easter is over, take off the seasonal Easter decorations and store what will keep. Replace with other embellishments of your choosing (eg:- hearts, petals, seasonal foraged flowers, green foliage). This will give you the opportunity to have a year-long wreath for any occasion. The natural silver birch wreath is the perfect base for all sorts of decorations, any time of the year.

With access to over 150 acres of private parkland and woodland at Maes Mynan Holiday, it’s easy to escape into nature to forage for wild flowers, raspberries, blackberries and greenery throughout the seasons.

We just love WP’s ideas of creating a Spring Easter Wreath, but it doesn’t just have to be for Easter.
