Supporting North Wales businesses | Acorn Leisure Holiday Parks North Wales

Places To Go, Things To Do, Shops & Services. Supporting local businesses and artisans on the doorstep of Acorn Leisure Holiday Parks across North Wales.

We love supporting North Wales businesses, artisans and producers, especially as there is so much choice ‘on the doorstep’ of Acorn Leisure Holiday Parks.

Holiday Homeowners and second homeowners, moving into their new holiday homes, in a location they may not be over familiar with, does sometimes require a helping hand, to discover what’s around.

That’s why, to support your Acorn Leisure Lifestyle, we share, on this page, useful information to help you locate, discover and explore something new.

We will continue to list local businesses, things to do and places to try, as we and you discover them. So please share your discoveries with us, so we may share your finds with everyone in the Acorn Leisure community. That way, we can build a directory of North Wales businesses that mean something to you.

Sign posting the local vet, butchers, takeaways, restaurants, coffee shops, cafés, shops, art galleries, pubs, and pharmacy, support our local communities too.

Finding things to do in a new area can be challenging, so discover other venues, castles, culture, beaches, places to eat and drink, activities and mountains via our Explore page here too.

Moel Famau Donkeys | Adventure Days | Countryside Walks with Miniature Donkeys | Book your experience day
Donkey Walking Adventures

Moel Famau Donkeys

Relax with miniature donkeys by your side and unwind from the stresses of daily life. Enjoy walking out in some of the most beautiful North Wales natural landscapes available locally.

Think of ‘Donkey Experience Days’ as guided meditation, where you can connect with nature and enjoy the great outdoors all at once! A ‘switch-off’ with a miniature donkey by your side!

Moel Famau Donkey Adventures are a family run business dating back to 1977. It all began with a Dairy Farm, with 100 milking cows and 200 sheep on a 140 acres farm. In 1991, the family business diversified into a sawmill and horse bedding production facility.

Located in the shadow of Moel Famau, part of the beautiful Clwydian Range (AONB), this family decided to share their unique location with visitors via tracks, paths and fields, accompanied by a miniature donkey!

The donkey trail is roughly 1-mile long, reaching up to 1,000 ft above sea level at its highest point. The first half of the walk involves a gradual climb overlooking Llanferres village, Loggerheads and Colomendy. Higher up and further afield, you can see right across to The Wirral, Flint, Deeside and Liverpool. There are opportunities to take in the views from bespoke, handmade benches. The stunning countryside backdrops also offer plenty of chances to take beautiful photographs too.

There are three different experience days to book. Choose your ‘Donkey Experience Days’ based on your abilities and wishes. If you love to walk in beautiful countryside, then consider taking a miniature donkey for a walk with you. It is advisable to read the guidance at the time of booking via the Moel Famau Donkey’s website.

Private bookings and bespoke experiences are also available, along with alternative dates in the website calendar. Please contact Moel Famau Donkey’s directly to discuss your requirements.

Ffynnon Beuno Jams, Preserves & Chutneys

Jane Marsh and her small, dedicated team make delicious jams and chutneys from fruit and veg grown on their historic smallholding based outside Tremeirchion. A beautiful hillside location that is part of the Clwydian Range and not far from Offas Dyke, Jane’s mission is “To tread lightly on our soil, working with nature's gifts to create beautiful jams and chutneys”. Made just over the hill from Maes Mynan Park!

Ffynnon Beuno is a 5 acre smallholding, which is also home to the famous “bone cave” and St. Beuno’s 1500 year old holy well. It is only a couple of miles, over the hill, from Maes Mynan Park.

Jane and her family fell in love with Fynnon Beuno as soon as they set eyes on the place. Jane is local to the area and a Welsh speaker and she describes her attachment to the land at Fynnon Beuno as ‘cynefin’ which translates into describing a real sense of belonging - something that this special and fascinating place offers.

Jane and her family have made this historic place their dream, adopting sustainable practices in all their artisan produce, believing in self-sufficiency, to create a range of tasty organic jams, preserves, and chutneys to sell.

Ffynnon Beuno is an ongoing project of productivity, which has included the planting of 50 cherry trees on the mountain side, that will see an ample supply of cherries for Fynnon Beuno jams and preserves.

Jak Jam Adam Evans Carpentry
Carpentry & Commissions

JakJam Artisan Wood Products

A tactile object d'art or a more robust piece of furniture - local timbers turned into something special.

Adam Evans of JakJam, lives locally and trained as a tree surgeon. He has always loved and respected woodlands, the beauty of trees and all types of timber.

His bond with the natural environment translates into the care he takes in creating each unique piece he fells, carves, sands and makes. He is an artisan woodworker in his creativity.

More recently he has introduced steel into his bespoke pieces of furniture, enjoying the way hard cold surfaces combine with the natural softness of wood textures, uniting the industrial and rustic overtone in one piece.

JakJam is all about offering a flexible approach to commissions to reflect the uniqueness of every piece of timber worked.

Adam’s passion combines every element of a project in all of his pieces, starting with the felling process (or the discovery of a wind fallen tree), before planking, treating, honing, sanding and carving the ultimate final piece, be it a piece of furniture, serving platter, bowl, candlestick or outdoor seat – all are unique and beautifully tactile to the touch.
