“Looking south from our lodge across Maes Mynan Lake to the northern side of Moel y Parc the outline of the hills has not changed in millions of years. But the coniferous woods on the hillsides to the east, sloping fields to the west and moorland above combine with the seasons, weather, farming activities and light conditions to create a constantly changing landscape.
Opportunities to observe wildlife are abundant, be that walking the local footpaths or just sitting on the deck. Rabbits and the occasion fox traverse the lakeside, coots, swans and ducks glide across the water, house martins and swallows sweep through the air as they feed and buzzards soar above. A flock of Canada Geese has been swollen by the arrival of this year’s goslings, and a squawking skein circling to a splashdown on the lake is a wonderful sight.
You can’t predict it, there’s no timetable, it’s nature, you just have to sit quietly and watch.”
