Marmalade Café & Coffee shop is a hidden gem on the High Street of Holywell and well worth a visit.

On entering the little café you are met with a wonderful smell of warming cinnamon and an amazing assortment of large artisan cakes, pastries, cheesecakes and different varieties of breads. In fact, it transported me back to the quaint coffee shops of the Alps.

A new venture, it is one that we should support. The quality and quantity are fabulous.

Marmalade offer good value too as the size of the pastries, croissants, and doughnuts have to be experienced to be believed.

“My name’s Erica and I’m owner and cook at Caerwys’ Ericatessen.

We’re a small (but mighty!) catering company lucky enough to work in conjunction with our local café here in Caerwys, On the Corner, whereby we rent the premises from the owners on Saturday nights and every Monday.

Saturday nights are predominantly takeaway, though we do also welcome guests dining in should they wish. With dishes such as steak & frites, weekly specials and our popular tapas menu, we can offer a little more than the average takeaway – home cooked, fresh and also delivered where possible.

On Mondays, we run a different menu including breakfast, brunch, lunch, fabulous coffee and homemade scones and cakes. We enjoy regular clientele and also lots of lovely holiday-makers passing through, so it is advisable to book a table if you know you’re coming to see us, as it does get pretty busy! Our Monday menu is available for takeaway too.

Again, our specials change every week, with homemade soups, vegetarian, vegan & gluten-free options, we’re only too happy to accommodate wherever we can.
We also provide bespoke afternoon teas, which we can deliver, throughout the week, perfect for taking the strain out of a get together and letting us do the hard work, so you can enjoy time with your guests.

Similarly, hot and cold buffets designed for your occasion, venue and guests in mind, are all part of the service.

We host different nights throughout the year, in the café and also in Caerwys Town Hall, where music features heavily, as my partner and I are also musicians, so there’s lots going on!

OVERVIEW

Dave is a professional landscape painter, and his chosen medium is pastels.

Dave Roberts, runs two types of workshop; one for complete beginners and one for people with some previous experience of using pastels.

The Beginners Workshop explores all about painting with pastels, before embarking on the creation of your own masterpiece.

Beginners groups are small with no more than six people and you will learn how to use basic technics using pastels, before moving onto completing a painting, working from photographs that Dave provides. The art class takes the form of Dave painting from the front, with a 'follow me' step-by-step process in real time. At the end of the day, your painting is set in a mount for you to take away with a goody bag.

The Improvers Workshop are for people who've used pastels before but are looking to develop their skills and involves small groups of no more than 4 people.

All materials you require for either paint class is provided in the price, including professional standard artist's materials, lunch, and refreshments.

Adam Evans of JakJam, lives locally and trained as a tree surgeon. He has always loved and respected woodlands, the beauty of trees and all types of timber.

His bond with the natural environment translates into the care he takes in creating each unique piece he fells, carves, sands and makes. He is an artisan woodworker in his creativity.

More recently he has introduced steel into his bespoke pieces of furniture, enjoying the way hard cold surfaces combine with the natural softness of wood textures, uniting the industrial and rustic overtone in one piece.

JakJam is all about offering a flexible approach to commissions to reflect the uniqueness of every piece of timber worked.

Adam’s passion combines every element of a project in all of his pieces, starting with the felling process (or the discovery of a wind fallen tree), before planking, treating, honing, sanding and carving the ultimate final piece, be it a piece of furniture, serving platter, bowl, candlestick or outdoor seat – all are unique and beautifully tactile to the touch.
